I was going to pick ART COLLECTOR to win the Kentucky Derby, so how can I resist him here against a similar group. Sure, there's more shine on Authentic following his Derby win, but I didn't see anything that day that made me think Art Collector couldn't have been right there. Pneumatic is the longshot key underneath. The horse ran fast enough in the Pegasus to contend in the Derby but connections opted to point here, and he's seemingly hit every mark. WAGERING STRATEGY: #3 Art Collector to win if odds are better than 2-to-1. #10 Pneumatic boxed with Art Collector in the exacta and wheeled underneath in the trifecta

Hard to believe that, just a few weeks ago, Tiz The Law was already being fitted for a Triple Crown BEFORE the Kentucky Derby. He's out of the picture and it looks like the Derby winner #9 Authentic (9-5) holds both a pace advantage and a talent edge in The Preakness. He should be able to make the lead even from his outside post and control the race from there. #3 Art Collector (5-2), undefeated in 2020, puts his four-race win streak on the line and will have to prove that he's Grade 1 material. #5 Thousand Words (6-1) and #11 Pneumatic (20-1) might figure in the trifecta and superfecta. Thousand Words has worked twice since his paddock mishap at Churchill Downs, including a good 5F drill in 1:00.60 last weekend.

Top pick #3 ART COLLECTOR has been very impressive and comes into race rested. Would've been strong contender in the Derby. Beat #4 SWISS SKYDIVER who is heavily raced and can only be used underneath. #8 MAX PLAYER is the best value in the race and could improve 2nd time for Asmussen. Has several impressive races and gets the pace set-up to hit the board. #2 MR BIG NEWS improved dramatically in Derby. #9 AUTHENTIC is logical but is an under lay who could regress with more pace. No other horse can win this race.

#8 Max Player has the most upside here if the morning line odds of 15/1 hold in a race he could get a favorable setup with several top betting options being speed types more weathered from a grueling sophomore campaign than this one who may just be getting into the swing of peak form. The Legend helps to explain how best to read the Pace Figures. It clearly defines what every line, symbol and figure means.

The Pattern Guide highlights Form Cycle Patterns, a series of 12 symbols/abbreviations, each with its own definition. These patterns are the easiest and most effective way to evaluate what we can expect from a horse's future performance and expected form cycle.

Value Play Picks use the automated technology and process to evaluate every track and race as well as the Predicteform.com team's analytical expertise, we can now rank every horse by its likelihood of winning the race and value (initially relative to morning line odds).
Value Play picks are included as part of all subscriptions and you can view now on the Free Race of the Day.
