The Arkansas Derby takes center stage on Saturday as last major Kentucky Derby Prep race. And while the winner and second place finisher are guaranteed a spot in the starting gate on the first Saturday in May, they could be at a disadvantage heading into the Derby off just 21 days of rest.
In its 90th year, the Grade I Arkansas Derby is contested at 9 furlongs for a purse of $1mm. Todd Pletcher has won the race the last two years, while the most recent horse to win the Arkansas Derby and also win the Kentucky Derby was Smarty Jones in 2004.
The Truth or Else (15/1)
A trying type who has run against graded stakes competition his last five starts, The Truth or Else has yet to string together two good races. His lifetime top from a Pace Figure perspective barely eclipses 70 which puts him at a huge disadvantage.
